The following is an announcement from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) Gerontology Center and the Colorado Gerontological Society regarding the Professional Advancement Certificate available through UCCS:

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) is excited to be able start a second Professional Advancement Certificate in Gerontology (PACG) course in the Denver metro area. Classes will be held at Front Range Community College, 3645 West 112th Avenue, Westminster.

UCCS has a long and respected history of providing educational opportunities in gerontology for aging services and healthcare professionals, individuals, family members, and other professionals.  One mission of the Gerontology Center is to educate Coloradans about the broad range of issues facing them and our aging society.

UCCS has offered the Professional Advancement Certificate in Gerontology (PACG) in Colorado Springs since 1993 and in Denver since August 2010.  Over 300 students have successfully completed the course gaining the knowledge to meet the demands of our aging population.  The program enhances understanding of age-related issues by providing the most up-to-date information and research findings in the field of gerontology.  The course features a faculty of academic researchers, experienced practitioners, and professionals in fields related to aging who offer a rich in-person educational experience to class participants through direct interaction with experts and through peer interactions with other class members.

The certificate course consists of two semesters taken in sequence.  Successful completion of the program requires class attendance, participation in discussions, and completion of topic/speaker evaluations.  Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from January 11th through December 13th 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m (no classes June/July). Two Saturday classes will also be scheduled each semester.  A maximum of six class absences is allowed.  Confirmation of contact hours is provided.  Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are not currently available.  Class size is limited; previous waitlisted registrations will have first priority, so others interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible.  A course brochure is attached. Note that it has not been updated for this second course so indicate “Course #2 2011” on the registration form.

Susanna Bozinovski, current course facilitator for our Denver PACG course and a recent adjunct professor in the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work and the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley Gerontology Program will be course facilitator for the second course.  Dr. Bozinovski served as a Management Analyst for the Colorado State Office on Aging for eleven years and served as Director of the Area Agency on Aging at the Denver Regional Council of Governments for ten years.
