This year’s lineup brings a number of speakers from The National Council for Mental Wellbeing, experts from NAMI, a NARCAN training, and many presentations from community mental health centers that have successfully navigated best practices for ensuring successful and productive MHFA trainings.

Presented by Pollack Peacebuilding Systems
For front-line staff and clinicians, this interactive workshop provides comprehensive skills training, practice, and a toolkit for effective de-escalation in behavioral healthcare settings. From recognizing escalation cues to employing reflective listening techniques, attendees will come away with a framework and effective new tools for minimizing escalation and mitigating risks, empowering staff to navigate tense encounters with confidence and skill. Participants will explore strategies for establishing rapport and trust, essential elements in diffusing volatile situations and promoting positive outcomes.
Facilitated by lead trainers from Pollack Peacebuilding Systems, a conflict management consulting firm, led by Dr. Jeremy Pollack, a social-organizational psychologist and industry leader in workplace conflict resolution in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Key components of the workshop include:
- De-Escalation Skills Training Certificate of Completion and Post Assessment follow up with Q&A.
- Understanding the root causes of escalation to addressing underlying needs.
- Techniques for emotional self-management to remain calm and focused.
- Recognizing escalation and implementing strategies to de-escalate situations.
- Practicing reflective listening to acknowledge needs, interests, and emotions.
- Offering reassurance effectively during escalated situations.
- Using policy or rules explanation to manage behavior constructively.
- Promoting autonomy and choice to empower individuals in de-escalation.
- Maximizing safety while building relationships and accountability.
- Participants will have the opportunity to incorporate and practice de-escalation techniques, ensuring they are equipped to handle challenging situations effectively in their roles.
President Recommends Mental Health First Aid as Part of Solution
A few hours ago, President Obama unveiled a plan for a mix of executive and legislative action designed to curb gun violence. A major component of the President’s plan calls for improving U.S. mental health services. CBHC is thrilled to note that one of the tools specifically listed in the President’s plan is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).

Weld County’s North Range Behavioral Health Youth Team Recognized Internationally for Outstanding Service and Results
An intensive family- and community-based treatment program in Weld County for high-risk juveniles, Multisystemic Therapy (MST), has recently been recognized for outstanding service. Nominated for the annual “Whatever It Takes” award by the international MST Institute for its success with troubled youth, the North Range Behavioral Health MST program represents one of 500-plus programs in 34 states and 14 countries. David Bernstein, Director of The Center for Effective Interventions, who co-nominated the team for this award with their MST consultant Angelia Watson, says, “The North Range Behavioral Health MST Team consistently meets and then surpasses its goals; they are extraordinary professionals who passionately believe in MST and the importance of implementing the model with fidelity.”
